Holly's Camp Journal

My Karate Camp Journal

Before I knew it I was on the ferry to the Broken Bay Sport and Recreation Centre, which was where the camp took place.I had no idea what to expect, except for a lot of training and a meeting with one of the best martial artists in the world, Sakamoto Sensei, who had flown out from Japan to train with us.

I thought he would be stern, serious and completely focused on making sure we went to bed with aching muscles each night. How wrong I was! There was never a time when he didn’t have a smile on his face. And he was sooo much fun to train with.

Each day we did something completely different. Kata with Sakamoto sensei, meditation with Sensei Lisa, fitness with Sensei Matt and bo fighting with Sensei Kim and Sensei Warren.

And speaking of senseis, every single one of them is completely dedicated to their training. It’s unbelievable!! In addition to these wonderful people, if you ever get a chance to speak to the whole staff, make sure you thank them all for putting in all that hard work, for giving us a great place to train.

Karate camp is a chance for children, students and families to get in, train hard, and most importantly, have fun! I had the time of my life there. I’m sure you will too.
